Take the guesswork out of quality control with IDEXX SmartQC

IDEXX SmartQC Control is a quality-control material specifically developed by IDEXX that is housed in the sample drawer and is run periodically to monitor the performance of the ProCyte One analyser.

You will be prompted to change the SmartQC vial when it is empty or expired.

  1. Open the sample drawer.
  2. Remove the empty/expired SmartQC vial.
  3. Shake a new SmartQC vial vigorously for 10 seconds to ensure it is well mixed and then load it into the rear slot in the sample drawer.
  4. Close the sample drawer.

Change the reagent and sheath packs

The ProCyte One analyser uses reagent and sheath fluids with every run. These fluids are easily loaded into the analyser as packs and should be replaced when they are empty or expired. You’ll receive a notification on the IDEXX VetLab Station when a pack should be replaced.

  1. Open the analyser door.
  2. To replace the reagent pack: Pull to remove the small grey reagent pack from inside the analyser. Then insert a new reagent pack until it clicks into place.
    OR
To replace the sheath pack: Pull to remove the large grey sheath pack from inside the analyser. Then insert a new sheath pack until it clicks into place.
  3. Close the analyser door.

Note: The door will not close completely if the pack is not seated properly.

Supplies, pay-per-run and auto-replenish

What are the supplies?

These supplies are used exclusively with the ProCyte One analyser:
  • Reagent packs
  • Sheath packs
  • IDEXX SmartQC Control
  • Filters

How much are the supplies?

All ProCyte One supplies are offered on a pay-per-run basis. The inventory is provided up front at no charge; you are then invoiced at the end of the month for only those runs performed.

How do I order more supplies?

ProCyte One supplies are ordered via I-DX online Ordering when your inventory is low allowing you to manage stock according to your individual usage.

Frequently asked questions for the ProCyte One analyser

The ProCyte One analyser is virtually maintenance-free! There are just a couple of maintenance procedures that are required on an as-needed basis (frequency will vary based on analyser use):

  • Change the reagent and sheath packs when prompted by the IDEXX VetLab Station.
  • Change the filter.
  • Perform a bleach clean of the analyser (when prompted by IDEXX Customer and Technical Support).

It takes less than 5 minutes to get results from a run on the ProCyte One analyser.

You will be prompted to replace the filter on the ProCyte One analyser approximately twice a year (this varies based on analyser use). An alert will appear on the IDEXX VetLab Station touch screen when the filter needs to be changed. It is important that you only change the filter when prompted or by accessing the procedure found on the ProCyte One Diagnostics screen on the IDEXX VetLab Station.

  1. Open the analyser door.
  2. Remove the filter panel.
  3. Lift up the green latch so that it’s perpendicular to the analyser.
  4. Pull the filter to remove it from the analyser.
  5. Load a new filter into the analyser, ensuring the arrow on the filter is pointing up and is aligned with the light grey chamber above it.
  6. Lower the green latch so that it’s parallel to the analyser.
  7. Replace the filter panel.
  8. Close the analyser door.

Diagnostic flexibility for your patients' needs

Test codes, names, and contents

The Standard IDEXX CBC is the appropriate and most cost-effective option for routine preanaesthetic or preventive care screenings on clinically healthy animals. Available for canine and feline, this option provides an automated CBC, including haemogram, five-part differential, platelets, platelet indices, as well as reticulocyte count and reticulocyte haemoglobin.

A blood film review is automatically included when results are markedly abnormal.

The Comprehensive IDEXX CBC is inclusive of an automated CBC, including haemogram, five-part differential, platelets, platelet indices, as well as absolute reticulocyte count and reticulocyte haemoglobin. A blood film review is automatically performed when results are markedly abnormal based on established guidelines (see protocol information in the Online Test Directory at vetconnectplus.com.au).

In addition to the Standard, the Comprehensive IDEXX CBC provides an IDEXX pathologist interpretation to evaluate the significance of the blood film findings.

Test Codes

ICICA - Haematology Interpretation for In-Clinic Analysers

ICBCA - Haematology Interpretation for Laboratory Tests (Upgrade from a Standard IDEXX CBC performed at the IDEXX Reference Laboratory)

Quantitative CBC

The ProCyte Dx analyser has the ability to flag when a left shift is suspected and will also flag abnormal results usually caused by the blood sample being compromised (Refer to sample collection guidelines for best practice sample collection).

When a clinic is unsure of what these flags mean, by using the ICICA code, you can upgrade your Standard in-clinic IDEXX CBC to a IDEXX Reference Laboratory Comprehensive IDEXX CBC inclusive of a quantitative CBC, blood film review and pathologist interpretation.

Blood Film Review

A blood film review is performed by a technician for platelet, RBC and WBC morphology and parasite screen. A blood film review is automatically performed when results are markedly abnormal based on established guidelines or if unclassified cells are seen based on specific established criteria (see protocol information in the Online Test Directory at vetconnectplus.com.au).

Pathologist Interpretation

When requested, an interpretation is completed by an IDEXX Pathologist which is available through VetConnect PLUS. Add a Pathologist interpretation to an Standard IDEXX CBC using code IIC.

Note: Upgrading from a Standard IDEXX CBC previously performed at IDEXX Reference Laboratories or on an in-house IDEXX haematology analyser (ProCyte Dx or LaserCyte Dx). Must be ordered within 72 hours of initial CBC.

Choose the right CBC for your patient

Run a CBC as a standalone diagnostic OR include it as part of a comprehensive minimum database. In either scenario, follow the algorithm to guide your case management decisions and discover more with the NEW IDEXX CBC test options.
